Garmin Aera 550

!

Leveraging Garmin’s industry-leading expertise in both Aviation and Automotive GPS, the versatile aera series of touchscreen portables take fingertip navigation to a whole new level. Featuring crisp 4.3-inch QVGA wide-format displays, all four aera models come with preloaded automotive maps, a built-in terrain/obstacles aviation database, patented Panel Page instrument display, and more. So, wherever you fly or drive, you can count on aera to provide the complete door-to-door guidance package.

The aera 550: A Premium Choice

Stepping up from the aera 500 model, the aera 550 brings added features, performance, and more advanced pilot/motorist capabilities to the overall product design. Terrain/obstacles graphics are shown in higher-resolution 9 arc-second detail on the aera 550 display (providing over 11 times more onscreen resolution than the standard 30 arc-second versions). And, as in all the aera models, GPS updating is provided at a super-fast 5 Hz rate. In addition to detailed flight mapping, the aera 550 comes fully preloaded with Garmin SafeTaxi® charts for over 950 U.S. airports – while an included AOPA Airport Directory database gives you detailed listings, phone numbers, facilities and fuel location information on over 7,400 U.S. landing sites, as well as airports of entry for Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. A full year of prepaid database updates is included with your aera 550 purchase.

Elevate Your Expectations

To enhance situational awareness, the aera 550’s graphical Terrain page offers both overhead and vertical profile views of the topography you’re overflying. Plus, a database-driven terrain advisory feature offers TAWS-like color coding and pop-up alerts when obstructions or ground proximity conflicts are projected to impact your flight path. There’s an IFR map mode that lets you navigate on high or low enroute airways. And for help with traffic separation, an optional power/data cable (sold separately) makes it easy to interface your aera 550 with the Garmin GTX 330 Mode S transponder in your aircraft, thus enabling you to access and display TIS traffic alerts in busy terminal airspace throughout the U.S. Moreover, you can also use the aera to load communication frequencies into your Garmin SL 40 Comm or SL 30 Nav/Comm transceiver.

Attention Road Warriors

When it’s time to hangar the airplane and head for the open road, your Garmin aera 550 never misses a beat. It’s “dual boot” design enables full automotive GPS capability, graphically supported by preloaded City Navigator® NT street mapping. Operating much like Garmin’s popular nüvi® line of touchscreen auto navigators, the aera 550 offers voice-guided turn-by-turn directions with text-to-speech audio technology that calls out streets by name. In addition, there’s built-in Bluetooth® support for wireless hands-free calling with your compatible mobile phone. Other premium features available on the aera 550 include lane assist with junction view, speed limit notification, Navteq traffic alerts¹, and more. Plus, there’s a unique ”smart mount” for the aera that helps get you on your way with instant clip-and-go transition from aircraft to automotive mode.

Garmin aera series: It’s the ultimate fly/drive option.

Garmin Aera 500

!

Garmin’s aera series of dual-duty GPS portables offer easy transition from flying to motoring – by combining the best in moving-map display features with intuitive, menu-driven touchscreen control. With aera, fingertip navigation has entered a whole new era: One that streamlines operation. Eliminates knobs and buttons. Simplifies the pilot/motorist interface. And lets you think in terms of door-to-door guidance, not just runway-to-runway.

Check Out the aera 500

There are four aera models in the Garmin lineup, offering a full range of cost/capability choices. The first and most affordable unit in the series is the aera 500. Featuring a crisp 4.3-inch QVGA wide-format touchscreen and pre-loaded graphical mapping, this versatile, feature-rich unit comes ready for takeoff, right out of the box.

Fly aera. Anywhera

In aviation mode, the aera 500’s detailed chart-style shaded mapping and extensive terrain and aviation databases help you visualize your flight path in relation to nearby navaids, terrain, SUAs, obstructions, and so on. Plus, the addition of private airports and heliports to the database affords even more navigation and emergency “nearest” options. A database-driven terrain advisory feature offers TAWS-like color coding and pop-up alerts when possible obstructions or ground proximity conflicts loom ahead. And with terrain/obstacle data shown at standard 30 arc-second resolution, you’ll enjoy a surprising level of detail on the display. The unit’s graphical Terrain page offers both overhead and vertical profile views of the topography you’re flying over. What’s more, there’s an IFR map mode that lets you display and navigate on high or low enroute airways. You can also pull up MEAs (Minimum Enroute Altitudes) and distances between intersections by touching the airway on the map. As in all the aera models, GPS updating is provided at a super-fast 5 Hz rate. And for added safety, an optional power/data cable (sold separately) makes it easy to interface your aera 500 with the Garmin GTX 330 Mode S transponder in your aircraft, so you can access and display TIS traffic alerts in busy terminal airspace. What’s more, you can also use the aera to load communications frequencies into your Garmin SL 40 Comm or SL 30 Nav/Comm transceiver.

Built to Fly. Born to Run

Once your aircraft returns to terra firma, the fun of aera navigation continues with full automotive GPS capability and preloaded City Navigator® NT street mapping. Operating much like Garmin’s popular nüvi® line of touchscreen auto navigators, your aera 500 offers voice-guided turn-by-turn directions with text-to-speech audio technology that calls out streets by name. In addition, there’s built-in Bluetooth® support for wireless hands-free calling with your compatible mobile phone. And the aera’s built-in “points of interest” database offers helpful guidance to millions of motels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and other local attractions. To further speed your transition from aircraft to automotive mode, a unique ”smart mount” for the aera offers instant clip-and-go car navigation.

Garmin GPSMAP 695

!

With features that focus on aviation-only navigation and mapping, Featuring a large screen, fully sunlight readable, VFR or IFR map display, the 695 is your own personal avionics system.

See the Big Picture

The GPSMAP 695’s bright 7-inch (17.78 cm) diagonal WVGA sunlight-readable display makes it easy to see detailed mapping day or night. Conveniently view a wider area of map on its large-format display. The bezel that frames the screen includes soft keys at the bottom for quick access to features and a joystick control for easy operation. The 695 also features fast 5 Hz graphical rendering of the panel page and datafields for smoother presentation of flight data.

Enhance Situational Awareness

GPSMAP 695 features a realistic “view from space” satellite imagery basemap. It comes with a built-in Jeppesen database, and Atlantic terrain database. It also includes an obstacles database for Europe. Using this information, the 695 displays your flight route over contour terrain mapping. With information from the terrain and obstacles databases, the 695 monitors your current position in relation to surrounding terrain to provide alerts. Even customize your own minimum clearance levels to receive terrain cautions.

Similar to several other portable Garmin devices, the 695 includes the following enhanced software capabilities:

  • Airspace Declutter
The GPSMAP 695 features the airspace declutter feature of the GPSMAP 495/496. Just select the maximum altitude and any airspace above this figure will not appear on the mapping page. If you fly higher than the maximum altitude selected then the data will automatically be displayed again.

  • VFR or IFR Mapping
Depending on your flying, you can configure the GPSMAP 695 to display detailed information for enhanced mapping in a VFR format or to emulate the IFR enroute charts to which you might be accustomed. The VFR mapping now displays IFR enroute airways boundaries for situational awareness and in IFR map mode it will display these boundaries along with Low and High airways. As in traditional Garmin style all mapping is fully customizable by you to display features satisfactorily for you.

  • Private Airports and Heliports, VRPs
The included private airports and heliports database provides even more navigation and emergency "nearest" options. VRPs (Visual Reference Points) are also included and fully searchable as part of your route in preflight planning.

Receive Altitude-Sensitive Alerts

When in the air, Garmin’s new Smart Airspace™ feature makes it easier than ever to identify what airspace lies ahead. Smart Airspace automatically highlights airspace close to your current altitude and de-emphasizes airspace away from the current altitude, which gives you increased situational awareness.
